Flower Essences

Flower Essences

There is evidence that the use of flower essences has been around for thousands of years, as well as their use in medicinal remedies and healing.

On a recent wilderness walk, I was greeted with the refreshing briskness and sweet aroma of wildflowers. I felt alive as the rays from an early morning sun sparkled on dew glistening with the essence of the flowers. Was this how people discovered the power of flower essences millennia ago?

There is evidence that the use of flower essences has been around for thousands of years. We know that the Maya used them 2,500 years ago, as have many cultures throughout the ages.

Flower essences work on the emotional stresses that make up the landscape of our daily lives. Using flower essences to transform human emotional response is a practice thatwas formalized and brought to the public’s attention by Dr. Edward Bach (1886 to 1936).

I have used these remedies in my clinic since the mid-1970s and have found them to be of great benefit to my patients. But as life evolves, so do people’s emotional responses to their environment and, more importantly, the emotional palate that they paint their world with. I now have patients describing emotions that weren’t discussed 30 years ago. In the clinic we now go through as many flower essences in a month as we used in the entire 1990s.

It is my experience that flower essences can be the key to breakthroughs in areas of health, personal growth, and well-being. The sun’s energy shining on a bowl of clear spring water covered with flowers sets up the vibrational frequency of the flower’s essence. Water carries the vibration of the flower’s energetic essence to our subtle bodies, setting up a chain of events that can be life affirming.

Flower essence remedies are used by simply matching up the emotions felt by a person with the energetic patterns of a particular flower essence. In this way we can help create emotional balance in a person’s life.

Choosing the Right Flower Essences

To assist in choosing the right flower essence for you, we developed a simple set of questions. This questionnaire can be found free at your local health food store and at our website,

After choosing the remedies (up to five) best suited for you, place 5 drops of each remedy into a 5 tsp (25 mL) bottle that contains 20 percent alcohol or 30 percent glycerin. Take 3 to 5 drops, in water or other liquid, orally 3 to 4 times daily, or more often as needed.

The Power of Water

The idea that water can record and carry various vibrations is not only seen in the study of flower essences. The work done by Japanese researcher Dr. Masaru Emoto in his book Messages from Water (Beyond Words Publishing, 2004) clearly demonstrates the power of water to hold vibrational messages. The crystallization or the fractal compression that is seen in water by merely writing a word on the water bottle, then freezing it, gives us a good visual image of these messages.
