Podcast: Serial

If you aren’t listening to podcasts, you’re wasting your life. I know that’s a strong statement but you’re missing out big time, IMHO. Here’s how my journey with podcasts began.

I listened to my first Podcast in 2014 during the many hours I spent packing for our move to Atlanta. My husband had been pestering me about trying podcasts for months, and honestly, I thought he was a nerd for loving them so much. He IS a big nerd for the record but— he happens to be a nerd with really good taste. When a new podcast called Serial came out he kn
ew it was right up my alley. I decided to finally appease him and give it a try.

Season one of Serial dives deep into a 1999 murder that happened in Baltimore. A high school senior was found dead in the woods, and soon her ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed, was arrested and later convicted of that murder. He’s currently serving a life sentence for it. But is he really guilty? That’s the question the podcast explores. I promise you’ll be sucked in right from the beginning.

Serial quikly became the most popular podcast ever, reaching five million iTunes downloads in record-breaking time. So this is kind of like suggesting Breaking Bad to someone who doesn’t watch TV. It’s dark, but it’s brilliant, and it popularity is for good reason. It’s the perfect podcast gateway drug, at least it was for me.

If murder-mystery isn’t really your thing, then it may not be for you. But stay tuned. I plan on telling you about all the podcasts I love. And I promise there’s a podcast for every personality type. They’re perfect to listen to while driving, cleaning the house or even while drifting off to sleep.

I never thought I could love just LISTENING to stories. All I could imagine was that scene from “A Christmas Story” where Ralphie sat in front of the radio waiting for his favorite show to start. I didn’t understand the magic of radio, I imagined it be so…well boring. But now I’m a changed woman and I’m on a mission to change you too. The bottom line is, if you’re not listening to podcasts, you’re wasting your life.

    1. When I saw your last IG post (such a beautiful pic by btw), I thought I’d check to see if you had any new blog posts or one I hadn’t read yet. Don’t know how I missed THIS one! Lol!! Anyhow, I do have a long work commute everyday living in the Bay Area. I’m certainly gonna try this particular podcast series that you shared…I hope it’s still out. I watch the ID channel all of the time and how you described it reminds me of that. Thx for the share and yes I agree, podcasts are so great. It’s just such a great way to be even more productive with time as you’re doing something else (driving, cleaning, whatever).

    2. Oh my goodness…I got so hooked on serial! It’s really good. I got my sister hooked too. Lol! Hey another great podcast (at least I like it) is The Red Couch podcast. If you haven’t listened to that one, give it a try. Another one I love is called Marriage Today. Anyhoo…thx for sharing. Love reading your blog. ☺️

      1. Thanks girl! yes, Serial is so addictive! I’ve heard of the Red Couch podcast, friends of ours are the ones who do it but I’ve not listened yet. I’ll have to check it out
